FIBA complete first-ever Level 1 Coach Instructor Course in China

WUHAN (China) – Aspiring potential coach instructors in China took part in what candidates described as an intense and extremely informative FIBA Level 1 Coach Instructor Course during the first window of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The three-day event, the first-ever course of this type in the country, was held at Wuhan Sports University.

Fourteen senior candidates from Chinese youth national teams, CBA/WCBA clubs and universities attended the Course. FIBA Instructors for Instructors Mr. Nenad Hrvoic and Mr. Milan Opacic oversaw the course while World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) President Patrick Hunt and fellow expert Mr. Nelson Isley delivered presentations, along with presentations from FIBA Headquarters.

The aim of the FIBA Level 1 Coach Instructor Course is to provide pedagogy, practical insight and techniques to participants so they can teach coaches. The course took place in the classroom but also on the court and candidates participated in various group discussions.

Candidates highlighted the course was “unexpectedly intense”, “very rich in contents” and had a lot of interaction as well as discussions with instructors and other participants. They also said it was “dramatically different to previous courses” they had attended.

The FIBA Instructors for Instructors are now evaluating the candidates’ performance in the Course. Those who are considered as qualified will conduct Level 1 coaching courses at FIBA BG Academy in 2022, and further bring FIBA’s world-class coaching concept and practice to the Chinese basketball community.
